I’m moving to Pune

Bund Garden Bridge, Pune

Yet again (this move will make it three cities in five years) I shall relocate. The last year in Bangalore has been very good for me personally. I moved out of the corporate world and into a world of my own! I am on the verge of starting my own company and the excitement and anxiety that comes with it is what I am living with for the last few months (yes, it’s been slow in materialising). But as I stand on the cusp, I have to admit that I will indeed miss Bangalore. For all its problems (traffic, language, 11.30pm deadline), it is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen (including the few foreign ones I have been to). How I wish Pune was 50% as good.

Moving to Pune is an exciting thing too for me, since I grew up here and know it better than the other two cities I have lived in. But what I have seen of Pune over the last few years as a NRP (non-resident Punekar) has left me a little uncertain. The infrastructure of the city is among the worst. Law and order on the whole is acceptable, but the city needs an immediate lesson or ten in traffic discipline. The roads need upgradation and the facilities in general are in desperate need. Thankfully, the house we have found is really nice with a great view and a fabulous terrace overlooking a mountain. Wish I could post some pics right now.

The move has begun. We have dropped our car to Pune on this trip (I am in Pune as I write this) and we pack up and leave Bangalore on 29/30 July. Just about three weeks to go. I will be sad to leave, but it will start a new chapter (another one!) in my life. And the social life Pune promises for me is a big bonus. To be honest, we will hopefully have a social life after almost a year of virtual solitary confinement!

More about the move as it happens!
