The true motivation for the Oscars?

Shekhar Kapur writes on his blog:

But next year will be fascinating. I have seen so many really good films out there made by new directors. Expect an almighty political battle for India’s nomination next year. And why not ? A win or a nomination adds substantially to the International Box Office.

The last line pretty much sums up why the Oscars are so important to film-makers. Because right at the start, Kapur insists:

The Oscars do NOT represent the ultimate in films of that year.

It’s all about the money, honey!
